Habitat for Humanity – Friendship Build

April 28 – June 12, 2007

St. Michael’s Easter offering was given this year to help build a new home in partnership with three other congregations in Toledo.  The ground was broken and blessed on April 24 (see the picture above) by our partner family, the Gists.

This project has been wonderfully supported, both financially, and by all those who have volunteered to help frame, side, insulate, paint, landscape, and also greet and provide refreshments. To help, contact Cyd Iorio,  419 – 842-8295.

St. Paul’s Community Center   July 22, 2007

We prepare and serve dinner each year at this shelter for the homeless, usually on the last Sunday of July.  Contact:  Pat McConnell,  419-536-9176

St. Mark’s Community Meal   September 30, 2007

When St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, on Collingwood in the Old West End of Toledo, began to serve a meal on the last Sunday of the month, open to anyone in need, we offered to help.  Our next turn to cook and serve is September 30.  Contact:  Laura Randall, 419-754-4134

FOCUS

St. Michael’s is a sponsoring congregation of Family Outreach Community United Services (FOCUS) which takes homeless families and individuals from shelters, and, through its Steps to Home program, helps them find stable employment and housing.  We provide gifts at Christmas, and help fill Easter baskets, and are represented by two members on FOCUS’ board. Contact: Dick Aldinger, 537-0074

Episcopal Campus Ministry

St. Michael's has been working with other parishes to develop an Episcopal presence at the University of Toledo. Through an Episcopal Campus Ministry Board, composed of members of both parishes, we identify Episcopal students and faculty, and offer pastoral care and parish connections.  Contact:  the Rev. Greg Sammons: 419-531-1616.

Episcopal Relief and Development

This outreach agency of the Episcopal church partners with those already on the ground to provide both emergency relief and long-term development aid around the world.  Donations can be made through St. Michael’s; or by calling 1–800–334-7626, ex. 5129; or on their web site:  www.er-d.org.

Their Gifts for Life catalog, on the web site, offers wonderful, life-saving alternative gift-giving options, year-round.

Christmas and Easter Offerings

St. Michael’s has a long history of giving away these offerings, in Christ’s name, to those beyond our walls. Recipients in recent years have included FOCUS,  Cuttington University, in Liberia, and Habitat for Humanity.  The Outreach Committee sorts through these recommendations, and arranges for a speaker.  In this way our awareness of needs in Toledo and beyond, as well as some of the ways they are being addressed, continually grows.

Alternative Christmas Shopping

At the Advent Event, which is held on the first Sunday of Advent each year, parishioners have an opportunity to shop for gifts which truly benefit others, at the Heifer Project and African Team Ministries tables.

Christmas and Easter Offerings

St. Michael’s has a long history of giving away these offerings, in Christ’s name, to those beyond our walls. Recipients in recent years have included FOCUS (see below), Feed Your Neighbor, Toledo Episcopal Campus Ministry and Cuttington University, in Liberia, West Africa.

Suggestions often come from parishioners, and reflect the active involvement of many St. Michael’s people in the community. The Outreach Committee sorts through these recommendations, and arranges for a speaker.  In this way our awareness of needs in Toledo and beyond, as well as some of the ways they are being addressed, continually grows.

Sunset House

Once a month the clergy celebrate the Holy Eucharist at this local retirement home. Members of the Altar Guild assist with this ministry.

We provide gifts at Christmas, back to school supplies in the fall, and are currently renovating an apartment.
